A Voice for Tourism –

Working together to save summer

SME Connect Travel Tourism & Mobility Working Group has been working on issuing a statement from its members to the Commission outlining what they believe is further needed by the EU to help the tourism sector restart. Our members could not find a better moment to publish this letter of requests. Today, Friday, June 11, the Council meets to approve the Commission’s 31st May 2021 proposal on updating EU travel measures ahead of the summer. The Tourism, Travel & Mobility Working Group members  would like to take the opportunity to express to Council the importance the approval of these measures hold for the sector. Many tourism businesses, workers, and families are relying on updated travel measures ready to kick-start summer. An approval of the measures would indeed send a strong signal to EU Tourism.

The letter presented today recognizes the work conducted thus far by the Commission, while calling for further coordination on travel, continued financial support for the sector and the need to reopen to international tourism. SME Connect hopes this can be useful for the continuation of the institutions’ work.
