The Role of Nutrition in Cancer Prevention

During the coronavirus pandemic, the fight against cancer and its prevention cannot be neglected. As cancer patients face high mortality from communicable diseases, it is vital to develop evidence-based prevention strategies to reduce cancer risks overall. According to the World Health Organization, between 30–50% of cancers can currently be prevented by avoiding risk factors, such as no nicotin consumption, no excessive drinking etc. Additionally, there is sufficient scientific indication pointing out the role of our diet as a prevention tool to reduce cancer risks. In particular, plant-based nutrition has been shown to protect against the 15 leading causes of death in the world, including different types of cancer, and may offer benefits as a disease modifying tool to improve the management and treatment of these conditions. It has been characterized by a marked reduction in mortality and age-adjusted incidence of many chronic disease common in Western society.
